With the rise of internet communication, emojis have been used more and more. Some people can even have a full conversation without words and just use emojis and understand exactly what each other means!
A report by AdWeek found that a whopping 92% of consumers use emojis when messaging every single day! Although words can easily convey your emotions, emojis may just go that one step further. They allow you to show a sad face, a smiling face, a blushing face, or… a vegetable.
That’s right! There are a bunch of veggie emojis you can use for whatever reason. Maybe you want to let someone know to pick up some tomatoes in the store, so you send a tomato emoji.
Or, maybe you want to ask someone out for a meal, so simply send a picture of a bowl of food with a question mark.
Emojis are wonderful and can be evocative of how you feel. But, sometimes, you can’t find that one emoji you want to use. One example is the pea emoji.
Before you go through your phone and desperately search for the pea emoji, you should read my blog! Find out why there isn’t a pea emoji, and if there ever was one.
Who knows? Maybe we can start a revolution and get the pea emoji we all need!
The Pea Emoji: Does It Exist?
Peas are a very popular vegetable eaten by millions of people every day. In Britain, for instance, it is believed that the average person eats around 9,000 peas every year!
The fact that peas are available all year round means they can be consumed more than most vegetables.
Therefore, you would think that there would be an emoji for such a widely consumed veggie. But, there isn’t. However, we have gotten close to pea emojis in the past.
When discussing ‘peas in a pod’ to describe someone who is the same as another person, I went to look for an emoji of peas in a pod.
But, to my shock, I couldn’t find it. I was sure it existed at some stage and through some research, I found out that it did.
The truth is, however, that no one knows why it was taken down. One day it was there and the next, it was gone.
So, if you want to convey a message about ‘two peas in a pod,’ you may have to go down the good old-fashioned route and describe it with words or send a photo of peas in a pod. Another option is to send the two cherries emoji, but this may cause some confusion!
What Vegetable Emojis Are There?
We may not be graced with the presence of a pea emoji but we can choose from a wide range of other vegetable emojis
In 2019, a new lineup of emojis was unveiled featuring a garlic bulb, an onion, and even a falafel. But, still, no peas. [insert sad face emoji].
With this lack of a peas’ emoji, people have even started petitions to have it introduced. Peas.org started to rally up support during Great British pea Week (yep, that’s a real thing).
They asked their supporters to register by signing up to their ‘Pea-tition’ (yep, that’s real too).
Peas.org even went into London, UK alongside a human-sized pea-pod with an aim to highlight the need and importance of having a ‘pea-moji.’
They even went to Number 10 Downing Street, the home of the UK’s Prime Minister, to campaign for the need of a pea-moji.
With 823 signatures so far, the petition is still ongoing and needs to reach their goal of 1,000 before any action is taken. If you would like to, you can assign the pea-tition here.
But, what about other food emojis? Here are some examples:
- ? Banana
- ? Grapes
- ? Lemon
- ? Blueberries
- ? Tangerine
- ? Melon
- ? Pineapple
- ? Watermelon
- ? Cherries
- ? Strawberry
- ? Mango
- ? Red Apple
- ? Green Apple
- ? Pear
- ? Peach
- ? Ear of Corn
- ?️ Hot Pepper
- ? Olive
- ? Garlic
- ? Onion
- ? Coconut
- ? Potato
- ? Broccoli
- ? Carrot
- ? Cucumber
- ? Avocado
- ? Eggplant
- ? Bell Pepper
- ? Leafy Green
- ? Broccoli
- ? Tomato (yes, it’s a fruit!)
- ? Kiwi Fruit
- ? Mushroom
- ? Chestnut
- ? Bread
- ? Baguette Bread
- ? Peanuts
- ? Croissant
These are just a selection of food emojis. With the inclusion of veggies such as broccoli and cucumbers, it is a little mind-boggling to think that there is no pea emoji.
But, the good news is that new emojis are added every year or so. Therefore, we may yet see a pea or peas in a pod emoji in the coming years.
But, for now, we have to make do with a selection of fruits, veggies, meats, and other food-related emojis to keep us satisfied until then.
In Summary
Currently, there is no emoji to signify peas. But, I have found out that there are people who feel very strongly about the need for ‘pea-mojis’ with ‘pea-titions’ created to have it introduced.
Do you feel we need a pea emoji? Let me know!
