We all love animals. Whether it’s a tiger, a lion, a dog, or a cat, something fills us with happiness when we see them.
But, perhaps the cutest animal of the lot, and one that gives us all a warm, fuzzy feeling, is the panda.
I love pandas! They are not only incredibly beautiful to look at, but they are also entertaining to watch.
And, I know I’m not the only one who feels this way. That is why it’s no surprise that there is a panda emoji.
As you can guess from the name, a panda emoji depicts a panda’s head, which is, of course, instantly recognizable.
Its distinctive black eyes, white face, and black ears easily stand out from most emojis, and animals for that matter!
While there is a panda emoji, it does vary on some platforms, such as HTC and Android.
Some make the emoji more cartoonish with a large smile. Emojidex goes one step further and gives the panda emoji blushing, rosy, pink cheeks!
Due to the connotations associated with the panda, such as being cute, playful, and friendly, the panda emoji is used for the same meanings.
However, it can be used for other reasons, too, such as when you want to chat about China or Chinese culture.
Let’s find out more about this affectionate emoji so you can understand the history behind the panda emoji and when to use it properly.
Panda Emoji Origins
You may think that the panda emoji has been around since the dawn of emojis, but this isn’t the case.
It was first unveiled in Unicode 6.0 in October 2010. This was followed by being added to Emoji 1.0 in August of 2015.
As for iOS, the panda emoji first appeared on iOS 6.0 whilst its first appearance was on Android 4.3 and on EmojiOne 1.0.
Over the years, the panda emoji has changed on different platforms. Let’s take a look at the differences between the panda emoji on various platforms.
Panda Emojis
Apple
As you can see, the Apple panda emoji is the basic depiction of a panda. More realistic than others, this panda is still very cute, but with no facial expression.
Samsung
Samsung’s panda emoji shows a fuller face than Apple’s. Although quite cartoonish, there is no smile present with a standard, panda expression, but the presence of its mouth makes it more familiar.
Now, here is a more cartoonish version of a panda by Google. Sweet, affectionate, and friendly-looking, this panda is used to convey friendliness with another person.
Notice that the eyes are white, though, rather than having black pupils. This gives it a more piercing gaze.
LG
LG’s panda emoji looks more like a classic teddy bear. With a more somber facial expression, this panda emoji has a more serious feel than many others.
HTC
It doesn’t get much friendlier than HTC’s panda emoji! Look at this happy chap (or girl!) With a friendly smile, this is the perfect emoji to send to someone to convey friendship and affection.
Microsoft
This panda emoji looks more shocked than anything else. Used by Microsoft, this panda face is not as round as many others.
Therefore, it doesn’t seem as friendly. But, it’s instantly recognizable as a panda if you were ever looking for the right panda emoji.
Arguably one of the most used panda emojis on the net, Facebook’s version of a panda is more detailed with artistic shading. I love the big, friendly eyes that are wholesome and welcoming.
Now, this is a unique panda emoji from Twitter! With its longer face and tongue sticking out, this panda doesn’t seem as cartoonish as some others. It looks more like an older panda, but still has the affection associated with the animal.
Messenger
You thought HTC’s panda emoji was friendly? Check out this from Messenger! Perhaps the most used panda emoji, due to being on messenger, this may be my favorite.
It’s detailed with shading, little eyebrows, and the happiest grin you’ll ever see. If you want to convey happiness or excitement with another person, this is the perfect emoji!
Mozilla
Extremely cute, this panda emoji from Mozilla may not show its mouth, but its wide, innocent eyes are more than enough to show someone you care.
Okay, this may be my favorite (I can’t decide!) WhatsApp’s panda emoji has everything you want from, well, a panda emoji.
It’s welcoming, friendly, and extremely sweet. I love the blue in the eyes that make the emoji feel more life-like, rather than a cartoon.
Skype
The first emoji showing the full body of a panda! This happy little panda is used by Skype and is one of the friendliest emojis out there.
The panda’s big, innocent eyes and small smile is enough to make even the most hardened person say “aww.”
Emojione
Don’t forget that pandas are bears. And, when you look at Emojione’s panda emoji, it becomes even more obvious!
With tufts of fur sticking out, this is a wonderfully realistic depiction of a panda and one I could look at all day.
Emojidex
And, here’s the famous Emojidex panda emoji, complete with blushing cheeks. Popular amongst children and teenage girls, this panda emoji is arguably the most cartoonish emoji on this list, but perfectly symbolizes the sweetness and innocence often connected to the panda bear.
The Codes For The Panda Face Emoji
